DIGITAL ARCHIVES IN SOUTH ASIAN STUDIES: TOWARDS DECOLONISATION
Friday, October 23, 2020
This conversation comes at a time when, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, scholars of South Asia increasingly rely on digital archival collections in our teaching and research. Simultaneously, a global movement for Black Lives calls for action to undo continuing colonial dispossessions in our academic work. In South Asia, scholars of Dalit, Muslim and indigenous histories also call for attention to the epistemic processes that continue to marginalize these communities. Addressing these legacies, we ask the panelists to reflect on what it means to do digital history in this moment, in the context of digital humanities in South Asia.
Panel: Varsha Ayyar (Tata Institute of Social Sciences), Dhanashree Thorat (Mississippi State University), Amber Abbas (St Joseph’s University) and Roopika Risam (Salem State University).

WORKSHOP | SEPTEMBER 2020
Sep 11, 2020 8 AM – Oct 2, 2020 7 PM
This workshop will address the main intellectual debates on gender and empire that the project aims to examine. Initially, this was planned as a one-day event at Brasenose College, Oxford on 1 May 2020. Considering the impact of COVID-19, the in-person workshop has been indefinitely postponed. Until we can reschedule the in-person workshop, we are planning an online, invitation-only webinar series in September and October 2020.
